raw material for polyethylene

When we look at plastic toy, plastic container and plastic bag, we might stop and think about how the pieces are made. A type of plastic that many of us come across on a daily basis is called polyethylene. It is in so much of what we use in our lives all around us, such as our toys, food packaging, and household items. Polyethylene question: Have you ever wondered what materials are used to manufacture polyethylene? Come explore this process with us!

In order to produce polyethylene, we need specific raw materials, and the most common are natural gas and crude oil. These are the building blocks of the main materials that are used to create polyethylene. Step # 1: The process of cracking is done to manufacture polyethylene. In this process, the raw materials are heated and converted into a gas known as ethylene. This conversion is critical, because ethylene is the precursor to polyethylene. After the ethenel gas is produced it has to converted to long chains, before they can make new polyethylene.

The Journey of Raw Materials to the Production of Polyethylene

Polyethylene is derived primarily from crude oil and natural gas. These materials are commonly called fossil fuels. After they are mined from the ground, they are transported to factories — called petrochemical plants. This transportation occurs via long pipelines and ships that transport large quantities of these materials. The raw materials are put through a special process known as cracking at the petrochemical plants. Using a means of high heat and pressure, we break down raw materials into smaller.elements to get the ethylene gas we require.

The resulting ethylene gas is transferred into some sort of special place called a polymerization reactor. Here, the magic happens! The ethylene molecules join together and interconnect in the polymerization reactor to form long chains. Polyethylene is what these long chains consist of. Once the whole process is done, the final product is extruded into small pellets. These pellets are then sent off to companies such as Yuezheng and will go on to be used in the production of a variety of polyethylene products.
