Plastic is a substance that surrounds us everyday. It sits in many consumer products: toys, bottles, bags, containers. You may see plastic smuggled into your lunch boxes, your water bottles or in the wrapping of your favorite snacks. But have you ever thought about where plastic comes from? To turn those raw materials into plastic, we need to go through processing them. These raw materials are produced from various chemicals that are naturally present. They are combined in various ways to produce the various types of plastic we use now.
This might not seem like a very interesting feature, but the truth is that one of the reasons plastic has become so popular is that it can be molded into a variety of shapes. Plastics are versatile materials that, for example, can be molded into cool shapes for toys or food containers. It is available in different colors including vibrant red, blue, or green. Sometimes plastic is mixed with an even better material. This process can enhance the strength of the plastic or also infuse a specific color. Different categories of plastics have special additives added to either them (delaying their degradation in the environment) or are uniquely colored and/or not opaque and so are not designed to fit in the 'louder categories.
Plastic is also vital in many industries, hence assisting people in various jobs. In medicine, doctors and nurses use plastic in tools and equipment. A lot of medical devices, such as syringes and IV bags, are plastic. Plastic is lightweight, safe and easy to disinfect, making it ideal for hospitals. It means doctors are able to use these tools to assist patients without worrying about the burden of heavy substances or dangerous materials.
In the automotive industry (like manufacturing cars), plastic is used to make cars lighter. “If the cars are lighter, they can use less fuel and produce less pollution,” This is good for the environment as it helps in keeping the atmosphere cleaner. Then there’s how plastic can help keep us safe when things do go wrong. The use of plastic has a cushioning effect and minimizes the potential for injury, which is important for all passengers in the car.
(But there are also concerns about plastic that we must consider.) One major problem is that plastic does not decompose in nature. That means it can survive in the environment a long time, where it can pollute and even hurt animals. Plastic waste, for instance, can be harmful to sea turtles and other animals when it enters the ocean. Plastic waste is produced every day, but recycling it can be tricky. Plastic recycling But many are working hard to seek better ways to recycle plastics and reduce waste.
It’s necessary to consider both the advantages and disadvantages of plastic. Plastic has its advantages — it is a useful, beneficial product to many industries and can make our lives easier in numerous ways. The negative reasons are that if we are not careful it can harm the environment. There is a company called Yuezheng, which produces plastic components and they're working towards a path of reducing such harm done by plastic through careful manufacturing. They save natural resources and create methods of making their products that are more sustainable.
However, not coming even starts from plastic, plastic will still be playing an important role of us in the future. But as we find new uses for plastic, we should also be careful to use it responsibly and care for our environment. That means recycling whenever we’re able to and being careful about not tossing plastic into the trash haphazardly.
