Plastic is an ingredient in things like toys, water bottles, shampoo bottles, and even some of the clothing we wear. That’s because plastic is lightweight and incredibly durable. Out of all the types of plastic, LDPE is one special type of plastic that is found to be really popular among the people for many good reasons.
LDPE plastic is very popular for one reason: Unlike other plastics, our favourite plastic can bend and can stretch. This makes it useful for various shapes and sizes. For instance when you purchase a bottle of shampoo, the bottle is LDPE plastic because it is flexible and can be squeezed. The, LDPE is popular because, it is waterproof. And that means that anything inside an LDPE bag won’t get wet. This has huge implications for food packaging. “That’s why you have LDPE plastic,” which is commonly used for things like sandwich bags or the liner inside cereal boxes.
LDPE plastic is great and very convenient for many things, but it is not always a good thing for our environment. Once LDPE plastic is thrown out, it can take centuries or even longer to fully break down. It can take many years before those materials go away from landfills. If LDPE is not recycled, it may find its way into our oceans or on land where it can harm animals and occupy space in places we discard waste.
We’ve already discussed some familiar items that are made from LDPE plastic, but the truth is, there are many more products out there! LDPE plastic is one of the most common examples of this, such as shopping bags you can often find in stores. You might see them at the grocery store or the mall while you shop. This make the bags very useful when you have a lot of things coming home with you as they are easy to carry.
Packaging with LDPE plastic articles offers plenty of benefits. For one, it’s extremely lightweight, so it doesn’t add much heft to the products you pack inside. Exciting for shipping and handling, as this helps make everything easier to carry. Second, it is easy to use. If they have the right machines, companies can crank out a lot of packaging in a short time, which helps to keep costs low. Designed to be cheap, LDPE plastic allows companies to create large amounts of packaging without a large cost.
Some of the downsides of using LDPE plastic are as follows. You already know it takes ages for landfills to break down, which is not good for the environment. Furthermore, it is not as strong as some other plastics. That alone means that they may not be the best option when it comes to products that need extra protection or support. For instance, plastic may not be the best for packing a fragile item.
With a growing understanding of plastics and their influence on the environment, there is a rising public interest in finding better materials as alternatives to LDPE plastics. One interesting idea is that of biodegradable plastic. Secondly, this plastic has some kind of special characteristics that allows it to naturally decompose in a couple of years for sure better for the earth in comparison. An idea that is truly innovative is plant based plastic. The kind of plastic can be made from plants, like corn, instead of oil, which cannot be replaced.
